Vibration and Noise Analysis System in a Car Interior

Challenge:

Design a system that helps users analyze noise, vibration, and harshness in a car when it is in use.

Solution:

Develop a vibration, sound pressure, and OBD-II data acquisition system for cars based on LabVIEW and data acquisition from NI.

Vibration and noise levels inside a car greatly affect the level of comfort when using the car. Therefore, a system for analyzing vibration and sound in cars is needed.

The developed system has the ability to acquire vibration and sound pressure simultaneously. In addition, the system can read OBD II data from the car, which provides information on the condition of the car, such as engine speed, vehicle speed, and coolant temperature.

The accelerometer (vibration) and microphone (sound pressure) sensor signals will be read by the IEPE signal reader module. To read OBD II data from the car, a CAN communication reader is used. This is because OBD-II data in cars generally uses the CAN protocol. To translate the received CAN data into easily readable data, the Automotive Diagnostic Command Set toolkit in LabVIEW is used.

The recorded data can then be analyzed using the Sound and Vibration toolkit in LabVIEW. With this toolkit, we can perform various types of analysis related to vibration and sound, such as order analysis, power spectrum analysis, and one-third octave analysis.

LabVIEW makes it easy for developers to create the above systems because LabVIEW makes interaction with NI acquisition tools very easy. In addition, LabVIEW also has a wide variety of toolkits that make it easy for users to perform analysis.
